Do Italians wear shorts in summer?

i have read that shorts are a no go in italy. Is that true and is there criticism that comes with wearing shorts. i am going to rome and amalfi this summer and want to be appropriate for their culture, as where im from (australia) shorts are part of our culture. if not what are some clothing suggestions?

Hi, I live in Italy

In summer you can find many guys and girls wearing shorts, especially in seasides like Amalfi, but also in the cities like Rome...
The point is that it also depends on how the shorts are... There are many types that are really unaesthetic, other that are acceptable...

Moreover it also depends on your age because the shorts are used especially by the young people, instead you'll hardly find an adult wearing those ( anyway it is not impossible)...

The last year, check shorts and jeans shorts were very used, but regarding this year, I don't know ...

Another thing that seems to me largely used by foreign tourits is "flip flops", but they are very non-Italian... Italians use rarely flip flops or sandals, only when they are to the seaside, but they generally prefer wearing shoes ...

Here you can find a list of shoes very common among Italians:

( However, remember that the temperature is very high in summer, so pay attention to the kind of shoes)

Have a good Journey ^^

italian man
yes we do ware shorts.

i don't know where you got that from but it's not true

Shorts are not as widely worn as in Australia, mainly at the beach not in cities. Some girls are now starting to wear them in the cities, but the styles are nowhere near as short as those worn here. You'll be OK in Amalfi, but not Rome.

Definitely do not wear shorts if you intend to visit a church, and this includes St Peter's and the Vatican in Rome. You will need to wear jeans/pants or a skirt (again not short) here.

im sure there are some people that wear them (why wouldnt their be, not everyone follows the fashion)..but whether or not it is fashionable i do not know
