I'm an African American and I just got back last week from visiting Rome and Florence. During my time there not once did I receive any hostile actions. I went solo and was seated right away, able to shop in stores without the fear I was going to shoplift and enjoy myself walking down the street when it got dark and still get helpful directions. Yes it's true there is current conflict between the native and African immigrants, but based on how you dress and present yourself they will know you're tourist from another country and not give you a problem. Surprisingly or not, the only ones who reacted to my race were other tourists from other countries. |

There are thousands of South Americans living in Italy and nobody discriminates them. Consider that Italy has an historical connection with South America, due to the millions of migrats that went there (Venezuela, Argentina, Brasil etc.). Moreover, many persons from Italy go on vacation to Latin America. |

1 Nobody dislikes Canadians
#2 Italy is about the easiest place to visit. They eat off of tourism.
#3 I have taken my young children there more than once and have never felt threatened or uneasy.
#4 Being from California with our share of South Americans,
South Americans can blend in when in Italy better than most. The looks are not all that different unless your boyfreind is 100 percent native South American or Indian in looks.
Have a great time |

ABSOLUTELY NO
1- (as someone else said here) racist people discriminate only poor people coming from poor countries.
He wears Bottega Veneta and Prada... no one will mess with him, don't worry
by the way,
2- the most of italian people likes people coming from the States, Australia and Canada... even if they are blacks, asians and so on
3- your boyfriend looks good, he is good looking and he is not very ''black'', he looks like a tanned Italian... |

i live in the us but I am argentinian/italian.Been to italy many times and here is my take:
Italians are racist, and all the italians that answered this question with they are not racist, are straight out liers. Personally it doesnt really affect me because I am as white as they are and I speak italian.Although because i have some accent they think I am Romanian at first and I get treated like sh.t, but then i tell them I am argentinian italian and get treated much better.
But people with some what of color better dress well and try to blend in and respect as much as possible. |

No because in Italy we arent racist at all! We quite welcome everybody is not like other place where people watch the tone of your skin, they will noticed he is darker still is not a problem for them at all! italy is too welcoming and these days we are having not few problems even with south americans gangs still we are allright when we see that the person is behaving in the right way..dont worry Italy is less far racists than the most of other countries included canada... |

He is going to be fine! There are many like him here. The blond girl close to him, on the other hand, could experience some problems in this country... |

Italy is currently experiencing a wave of nationalism in response to high crime and other problems brought upon by abusive immigration of africans and gypsies and their absolute refusal to assimilate or even do anything except form a criminal class. Squatter camps have been burned to the ground. Violence is common and the government is showing real signs that they will use soldiers to round up these problem people and deport them en mass (ie they are fingerprinting them, preparing files, seggregating them from the normal population etc.). Not exactly what I would consider a decent time to go vacating there, especially if he could be mistaken for one of those two groups.
The problem is not isolated to italy, btw. Most of europe is experiencing much the same among the people who live there with varying degrees of congruence with the various governments. Extreme instability of the EU itself due to a possible collapse of the economy in the near future is fueling the problem.
Eastern europe.....forget about it....roaming gangs of skinheads in some places murdering foriegners, especially in russia. |
