Hello, Great news... There are dozens of hostels in Florence that are affordable. Even though the summer months are more expensive, you can still find alot of clean safe well located hostels there. There are two specific ones I reccomed, and I will also give you a link to Twizi.com's Florence page.

I strongly suggest Istituto Gould, in Via Dei Serragli 49. Very close to Piazza Santo Spirito and walking distance from all tourist attractions, has good rooms and good prices and you do not have to share the room with too many people. They also have double and single rooms.

well i don't believe the hostels, are going to be very nice, since anyone hostel is going to be pretty aggressive, second, if your not expecting to spend allot of money, than you obviously have no real intention of traveling any where. due large in part to the fact that Italy is a huge tourist destination. i don't believe they have anything cheap there.
