What a lovely theme to write about. A branch of my family is from Ferrara, one of the Northernmost cities of the Emilia Romagna, so, notwithstanding the intelligent suggestions to look it up on the Web, I’ll give you my very personal flash.
The name comes from a combination of two Regions (Emilia, from the “via Aemilia”, that runs, since Roman times, from the River Po, right down to the Adriatic coast; Romagna, from the “Roman.Byzantine “Esarcate” ruled by Byzantium after the fall of the Western Empire in 476 CE). In the West it runs along the Appenine “ridge”, with a wild, Nature rich environment populated by quaint hill towns and sturdy people. In the East you have the rich alluvial Po valley, which borders on the Adriatic coast. After having been in the hands of dozens of influential noble families up to and including the Renaissance, most of the city states were absorbed into the “Papal” territory, until Italy’s independence in the 1860’s. What is the Region famous for? First and foremost it’s rich agricultural traditions, with famous wines, a rich and generous cuisine (Emiliani are famous for their pasta combinations, Romagnoli for their heady wine and tasty fish, with Ferrara’s eels on the Emilia side), rendered immortal by Parma cheese and air cured bacon - Prosciutto. – most of which come from not one but two cities Parma and Reggio; Ceramics and internal decoration material, like the Faenza tiles have made the entire Region famous, as, of course, the Ferrari and Maserati car plants near Modena, in addition to those rare jewels, the Lamborghini. The people? Amongst the heartiest and good humoured in all of Italy. Another “top” is education, with Bologna as one of the oldest Universities and the Cooperative Model, a truly successful social item.
Now enjoy the clip I’m quoting on “my Ferrara” for atmosphere.

Really don't know what you need for your presentation, and don't really want to do your homework for you but I can give you a start...

It's a beautiful region in Northern Italy and is where some quintessentially Italian things come from such as;
Aceto Balsamico (Balsamic Vinegar)
Parmigiano-Reggiano (Parmesan cheese)
Prosciutto
Maseratti
Ferrari
Ducai
Lamboughini
Pavarotti (the singer)
University of Bologna (Oldest university in Europe)

it is also one of the richest regions in Europe with the lowest unemployment

I think that gives you plenty to go on =)

Haven't you ever used Wikipedia? Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emilia_Romagna
You'll get quite a bit of basic info there plus quite a few weblinks. And, of course, you can find some pictures on Google maps. Also take a look at Rimini, Ravenna and Rubicon - all are located in E-R and have quite fascinating stories to tell during the presentation.
Good luck.
