I was there in march of last year and it was 50 euros,(cheapest i could find, but have you thought of getting the coach it drops you of at the bus station in rome which is very central and costs just 15 euros and takes 40-45 minutes ,you can book it on line.

pardocz
It costs a fixed price of 30 Euros, if you are going to a destination inside the city walls.

Quoting from wikitravel: "From Ciampino airport the flat rate is €30 to anywhere in the city period, and this is set by a central authority."

You can also check your exact itinerary in http://www.worldtaximeter.com/rome if you input there your origin and destination. It will then give you an estimate of the actual price for the taxi ride.

40-50 euros...you can try to bargain

I would get the coach which leave from just outside the airport and takes you to Termini station where you can hop on the metro. Its called Terravision and if flying with Ryanair the sell tickets either in Engalnd at the airport, on the plane or there is a kiosk at Ciampino in arrivals. I wouldn't waste money on a taxi because Ciampino is on the outskirts and will probably cost a bit.

About £40 euros - it's quite a way. And they all drive very fast, so hang on in there and make sure your seatbelt is fastened.

Spike
Nope but its quite a drive. I take it that you are using Ryanair who fly into that airport. Why they call it Rome is beyond me. If you were to call Ryanair customer helpline i am sure they will be able to advise you as one of the staff will most likely have taken the same journey.
