Does anyone know of any cheap hotels in Rome?

I just want a cheap no-frills hotel that is in the middle of Rome, i.e. close to all the major attraction like the Vatican and Colosseum. Thanks.

About £70 a night

Try this site. I don't know when you want to go so can't be sure the room would be 70 pounds. This site is great as it gives reviews from travellers and not the travel agents, This is a better as it gives you an all round picture of the state of the hotel you would be staying in.

I have used it for hotels I have booked on-line in an number of countries and was so glad I did.

I use the venere.com site for booking hotels here in Italy. There are over 500 hotels and 300 B&Bs in their database. You can use a map to sort for a particular district in the city you're interested in and then sort by price, guest rating,... http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/#o=defa... The site has a lot of reviews by previous guests to get an idea of what to expect from the area, the hotel, and the staff.

Any of the central districts in Rome are convenient for sightseeing. The area around the Roma Termini train station is cheaper, but a little further from the sites. It is still walkable though, and there are good public transportation connections.

The Trevi, Colosseo Foro Romano, Pantheon, Navonna, and Piazza di Spagna districts, as shown on the venere map, are all within easy walking distance of all the major sights.

If you're looking for cheap and close to the attractions in Rome, a good option may be the Hotel Romano (75 euro)http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/kolosse... It's very close to the Forum & Colosseum and within walking distance of two metro stops and the Termini train station.

Another option about 2 blocks to Roma Termini is the Serena (90 euro) http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/esquili...

I liked the Hotel Richmond a lot. There are really good views of the forum and the Vittoriano from the hotel. It's very close to the many of the attractions. http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/kolosse...

There's some good suggestions here and I like Venere.

But these sites have some excellent bargains which you can sort by location and price plus star rating . You may find it useful for pensions , hotels , guest houses and hostels :

Residenza Ave Roma Hotel, Lungotevere Tor di Nona - by the river, opposite the Castel Saint Angelo. Four star but remarkably cheap, especially for a hotel in such a good position.

If you're looking for a cheap way to travel, try www.couchsurfing.com. I haven't had the chance to use it myself, but I have a Belgian acquaintance who has traveled the globe this way. If you have an open mind and are interested in meeting people from other cultures, this is a great way to do it!
