if you have American appliances you will need a transformer to step down the current over there (which is 220v) down to the typical current we use in our appliances in America which is 120v.
you can find the transformers on-line or in radio shack for example!

do NOT plug in your American appliances in Europe if they only work on 120v because then you WILL blow them up.

You just need a standard european adapter.

Yes they are available at all Airports.Italy uses a little skinny 2 prong round pin plug. Main voltage is 220

If you buy an Euro adapter kit you'll find what you need. You can usually find the adapters you need in Italy too.
It was already mentioned - you'll need transformers to step down the 220 to 110 appliances you may have. Check your appliances for they may be able to be switched to 220. in any case you shouldn't run your 110 appliances off of a transformer for long periods of time because they may over heat and it may not be safe in the long run.

You need to 220 volt converter or transformer. They look like two little round plugs but they have two different kind in Italy one is a little smaller than the other. You cant really tell this untill you plug them in. But the smaller size will fit in either plug but the large on will only fit in the larger fixtures.

2 round prong adapter and possibly a voltage converter.

APC (American Power Conversion) Power Adapter USA to European SCHUKO Connection
Also you will need a special 3 prong adapter, for Italian plugs as they are different then the rest of Europe. Try www.magellans.com, they have everything you'll need
