Only four cities have subway in Italy:

Tourin

Milan

Rome

Naple

The easiest way to move in Venice is using the boat ( called vaporetto or motoscafi) because it's completly built on the water:

In this website are shown the most important vaporetto and motoscafi lines:

Yes John, you're right, I've forgotten it...

Are you asking because you want to get around cheaply? Venice is built on water....it has lots of boats, but no subway. There is no need for a subway system and no engineering marvel could be built. The canal system instead of roads/streets and they have all types of boats to move around. So, to get the people- I guess tourists since there are a lot of us, around they have a taxi system of boats - it is called the Vaporetto. You buy a ticket for the boats by how many days you will be there. Then when you want to go to a certain place or area, you go to a dock that has the name of where you want to go, wait until the boat comes and unloads all the passengers getting off at that point, and you hop on. When the boat gets to where you want to be, you hop off. The tickets are good for as many days as you buy them for. It is easy to use, relatively inexpensive ( nothing in Venice is cheap ) and pretty quick. I was told that the locals do not use this...they walk. It is an island and tourists get lost...that is part of the fun of being in Venice. I guess they know where they are going and use the bridges. Hope this helps, and you will have fun in a gorgeous place!

Venice does not have a subway, either as in subway rail system, or a Subway restaurant.

Just Tom
I don't recall seeing one. The Vaporetti (water bus) take you everywhere. You can walk most any where you want to in a very short period of time --- depending on what you want to do.

hi! i'm italian and i go to Venice almost every year! it absolutely doesn't have a subway... but the historical center can be visited by walking! if u wanna see the city from the "canals", you have to take a tour on the carachteristic "gondole"... or if u need a rapid transit from a place to another, you can take the Venitian "public transports" called "Vaporetti", which are boats with the bus function!

I hope to have been helpful! bye

No, but there was a proposal by the mayor at one time to build a subway that would connect the airport with the city. As you can see from the dates on the attached articles, the idea has been floating around for a long time. At one point, the project had been approved, but this really doesn't make a lot of sense. http://veniceblog.typepad.com/veniceblog/2004/01/the_venetian_su.htmlhttp://www.iht.com/articles/2005/02/23/news/venice.php

Venice doesn't have the subway because it is built upon the sea.
