it's SUPER hot here in july so bring a lot of cool, flowy clothing. i recommend knee-length skirts [hoochie jean skirts are not appropriate for visiting churches and also look ridiculous; also wear a shirt that covers your shoulders or bring a wrap to wear for churches], dark jeans, sun dresses, polo shirts, gladiator sandals, flats, sunglasses [italians ALWAYS wear sunglasses], dressier tops, a nice bag and heels. italians look good even when going to the grocery store.
men also dress nicely at all times. dark jeans and suit shirts are staples, as are dress shoes. longer shorts are also worn.
at night, step it up a notch. silk blouses and dresses are most popular, always worn with heels. accessories [gold and silver] and also very popular. men wear dress pants and suit shirts, again with nice shoes.
if you don't want to be laughed at, don't look like a typical tourist: hat, white tennis shoes, socks, big tshirts, baggy shorts, etc. try and speak the language too - we appreciate it when people try. :)
HAVE FUN! YOU'LL LOVE IT HERE! |

CiaoCiao -- pretty well sums it up. The biggest tip off to identify you as a "turista" are "sneakers".. Check out what the locals are wearing and dress accordingly. Do not be afraid to ask the local concierge what is or is not appropriate. |

It will be hot in Rome in July so bring light natural fiber clothes. Shorts shouldn't be too short both for women and men as tops shouldn't be "too reavealing" (if you want to visit churches there is a dress code to follow). Jeans and other cotton pants are just fine. Sneakers are ok but also confortable sandals (but not flip flops, your feet will get tired faster).
About women's tops, you might want to add something special to wear during your evening and night strolling. |
