"parla inglese?" = Do you speak English?

Mari76
1)Buon giorno = Good morning/Good day.
2)Buona sera = Good evening
3)Buona notte = Good night.
4)Mi scusi/Scusate = Excuse me (if you are talking to one person) / Excuse me (if you are talking to more than one person)
5) Destra=Right (as in directions)
6) Sinistra=Left (as in directions)
7) Dritto=Straight
8) Mi scusi, c'è un bagno? = Pardon me, is there a bathroom?
9) Vorrei un biglietto andata e ritorno per ....? = I would like a round-trip ticket for...?
10) Avete una camera singola/doppia/matrimoniale disponibile per oggi/domani? = Do you have a single/twin/double room available for today/tomorrow?
11) Quanto costa? = How much does it cost?
etc. etc.

Italians don't tip. If you want to tip you can, but it's not the norm. If you go to a restaurant be prepared to pay for a "coperto" which is usually around 1-2 euros per person (it pays for the washing of the table cloth and bread). If you go to a coffee house and sit down the price is higher than if you eat standing up. Italians don't use a lot of ice. If you ask for ice, they will give you 1-3 cubes. They don't serve tap water. You have to order bottled water (naturale= plain/still and gazzata/frizzante= sparkling). Oh yeah, beware of zingari (gypsies)...they are everywhere and aren't very much liked in Italy for more than one reason. Etc. etc.

Okay, I gave you the Lei form and not the Tu form of saying things. The "Lei form" is the form you use for elderly people or when you want to show respect. Italians are very big on this.

P.S. I live in Italy, if you need any more help just ask.

1.per piacere, dov'è il bagno? (please, where's the bathroom).
2. Quanto costa? (How much this cost?)
3. Mi dà uno sconto? (Could you give me a discount?) They wiil always raise the price for tourist.
4. Chiamo i carabinieri!! (I'll call the police!!).

They don't tip here. So, don't ask to tip.
When you ask for water : frizzante (sparkling) , naturale (natural).
On the markets, prefer to by from the African guys, they are kind and usually give you a better price. Most of them speak English.
If you go to Venice keep your purse tight, on the way to the Rialto Bridge.

Avoid eating close to restaurants on the Grand Canal, the prices are high.

Going to Rome, watch out in the metro for Gypsies...

I know is just security rules, for the rest have a great time here.
