ABSOLUTELY do not miss the Basilica. Other than that, must-sees are the Uffizi, ponte vecchio, san lorenzo market if you're a shopper, and look up some other churches to go to in Florence also (they are guaranteed to be amazing). I'm sure I'm missing other amazing things, but i cant think right now.

The Academy (Galleria dell’ Accademia)- This museum is filled with Renaissance paintings, but is most famous for two things: Michelangelo’s DAVID and his unfinished Prisoners.

Baptistery- This is Florence’s oldest building, dedicated to the city patron, and is one of the most important Romanesque buildings in Tuscany. But the most significant highlight is its exterior bronze doors.

Duomo- This Gothic church has long been a symbol of Florence. The striking neo-Gothic façade of pink, green, and white Tuscan marble is from 1870 . Climb the 463 steps to the top for a wonderful view of Florence, or climb to the top of the campanile (bell tower) designed by Giotto. The campanile is less crowded and you get a view of the famous dome in addition to the view of Florence.
(AND the inside of the of the Dome has amazing art on the ceiling)

Pitti Palace including Boboli Gardens and Museums-
Garden- Behind the palace are the Boboli Gardens designed in the 16th century - a grandiose example of classical Italian garden layout.

Santa Croce Church- This 14th century church was started by St. Francis of Assisi and today holds the tombs of great Florentines. Included are Michelangelo, Machiavelli, the composer Rossini, as well as a memorial to Dante. The square in front of the church is popular with street vendors.
(AND the best gelato place is a few blocks away - Vivoli!!)

Uffizi Gallery- This museum is the oldest and most important in Florence and it offers the greatest collection of Italian art in the world. Some of the great artists whose works are on display here include: Giotto, da Vinci, Raphael, Rubens, Titian, Michelangelo and Botticelli.

I spent six weeks living in Florence during a study abroad - I loved it. You will see amazing sights just walking around the city. Beautiful architecture and people.

Hey,I live in tavarnelle..a little village near Florence..and you must know that our country is one of the best in all Italy..
I think that in florence you should visit the Uffizzi (the museum where's the Botticelli's venus),Ponte vecchio (where you can find everything 'bout jewelery and things like that),you should visit also Santa Croce..that's the most important church in our city..There is the Michelangelo square (where in summer there's TRL Live on Tour..XD)
However you must visit Boboli's gardens..in "Porta Romana" and if you want to go shopping there's Tornabuoni street where there are the most important shops..like Gucci,Ferragamo,Valentino,Versace,Chanel... and more..
Well if you'll come in florence now you know that there are a lot of things to see and to do..so i'm sure thet you'll have fun!!
