Florence is quieter and far more beaufiful than Milan. Milan is busyer and bigger, but there are more thing to do nightime. It depends on what do you want to do. Personally, I'll prefer Florence, and I live in Milan... |

Florence is a much more pleasant city. Milan is a large, noisy city with a lot of business and traffic. Florence is also much more picturesque. It has been a few years since I was there but I doubt either has changed much. We visited Milan, Rome, Florence and Venice. Florence was our favorite. A beautiful place to visit or live. |

After three visits, Milan is growing on me. Florence is fabulous for the arts and history, but overrun with tourists and American students (could be an advantage). Milan has great museums and churches. If the fashion industry is of any interest, Milan is the place to be. Also for design.
Great neighborhoods, great food, good to great public transportation. English less widely spoken - could be an advantage if you want to learn Italian.
Also close to the lakes, Switzerland, Austria. |

Florence is soooo historical and such a beautiful place for art and art history. You can bet that you will love either place, but for a choice I would live in Florence for my life. We toured Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan. Milan is the fashion center, so it is good in that sense, but Florence has my heart. It is gorgeous and full of love! |
