For Italians living in Italy-I know that you have coverage for medical needs and can go to the hospital at no?

In theory, we do have free dental coverage, but the lists are so long that most people prefer to see a private practitioner. In that case, costs can be very high -- same as in the States.

Primary care is free for everybody -- you don't need to be an Italian citizen. If you travel to Italy as a tourist and you need to see a doctor or go to the hospital for an emergency, you won't be billed. As far as dental help is concerned, I suggest you take an insurance plan before you leave your country.

Dental expenses are also covered by the National Health Service, but service is not really the best (long waiting lists ...) Most people go to private practitioners and pay unless they have coverage by a private health insurance.
If you want coverage in Italy, I suggest you apply to the Health Authorities of your country and get an official form stating that you have health insurance. If the two countries have an agreement, you get free treatment here. In any case, first aid and emergencies are all covered

i live here in italy, every year i renew my medical coverage. its not free for foreigners, you have to be italian to get the free deal, UNLESS the foreigner applies for the free medical care. how do you do it? :

first of all depends, are you here for 3 months as a tourist? or are you here wiht a student or work visa? i dont know how it goes if your a tourist, but if you have a visa, you have to go to your nearest 'Anagrafi? office' inside a medical department where youll fill in a form, show your visa, passport, ecc and they'll give you a form filled out that you would need to go to the nearest post office where youll pay the fee (it about 100 euros per year) and from there you would return to the office, turn in the reciept, youll get your papers and your set. i dont know if the medical coverage includes the dentist fees or not, you would have to ask.

how did i ever find out? i went to the closest hospital to ask about this, they sent me another department in another building away from there, got there, they explained how the entire process works and told me i was in the wrong either way. sent me to anotehr building where finally i was all set and done.

Yes,Italian citizens do get free dental coverage in Italy but there is an extremely long list that by the time you get in you may not have anymore teeth.The majority of the Italian get private dental plan.They also have free medical care.
As for visitors to Italy you do have medical coverage you can see a doctor or go to a hospital and not get charged.If you're an Italian Citizen you do get dental coverage but like I said you'll be on a waiting list.
I would recommend getting your own private insurance from your country!!
