I live about two hours from Venice and spend a lot of time there. In my opinion, it is a beautiful place to visit. Wandering around over the bridges and canals is special. I particularly like being out when it's foggy in the city; it's easy to believe you've been transported back in time to the period of the Doges. There are a lot of interesting festivals throughout the year. However, as nice as Venice is to visit for a day or a weekend, I don't think I'd want to live there full time. It's very expensive and often crowded with tourists. Living outside the city itself and being able to go whenever I want is perfect. |

Venice is my favourite European city - it's so unique, it's like living in history. Just wish I could live there.
Although surrounded by water, it is quite accessible as there is a causeway to the mainland for road transport and trains. Trains and buses run every ten minutes to the mainland. There is an international airport 7 kms away on the mainland and this is also easity accessible by bus and vaporetto. Vaporettos are the Venetian waterbuses, have designated route numbers and floating platforms, and with these you can travel all over the islands. |

Venice is very pretty, its almost like a maze though. The streets are small and narrow and you can get lost... kinda fun to wander around and look at shops, eat and get an espresso. Venice is gorgeous... |

I've been to Venice many times...actually I'm thinking about studying abroad in Italy. Out of everywhere I have been in Italy, Venice was my least favorite. It was beautiful of course but I found it smelly and expensive. It is also kind of hard to travel in and out of since it is surrounded by water. However, I don't mean to dissuade you. Italy is beautiful no matter where you go. If he's the one your in love with I say go for it! Goodluck |
