Going to Italy. Rome Venice? |
Hi there My self an d my wife are going tor Rome on 27th Sept for 9 days It's going to be a surprise for her for her birthday. We are flying into Rome and out of Venice.
I am taking care of the trip and want to be fairly organized b4 we go so it goes nice and smooth.
So a few questions does anyone know any cute reasonably priced hotels/inn's/B&B's to stay in in either of these city's? I definitely want to pre book the first two nights in Rome and the last two nights in Venice.
The rest of the trip we could wing it.
So our Ideas about Italy are probably like allot of others we want to see the country side visit the smaller towns and villages stay in nice little hotels B&B's drink wine, eat good Italian food, go for a roll in the hay along the way all that Rosemantic stuff.
Anyone have any suggestions of places between Rome and Venice.
IYO would it be better/nicer/more scenic? To head east and then up the coast or just head straight north from Rome up through the middle??
We could probably rent a car for this part of the trip. But only drive it in the country side i heard the big city's are crazy to drive in
Some one told me Tuscany was really nice.
Any suggestion would be great.
Thanks

Rome is quite crazy to drive in, it's better if you use metro or bus, it's cheaper if you rent the car after visiting rome.
In Venice we found good the little hotel "IL GOBBO". Even in Venice you can't use the car, you have to park it outside the center. If you fly from Venice you can let the car just arrived there, so you won't have to pay the parking.
Between Rome and Venice i would visit Siena (Tuscany), Perugia and Assisi (Umbria), Ferrara (Emilia Romagna). You'll find a lot of cheap and nice accomodation such as B&B all over these regions.
Have a nice stay! |

In rome I stayed in some hotel that had the name "Napoleone" in it. It was in the vittorio emmanuele district. That was great because it was right next to the subway and could get anywhere we wanted. Those trains close by 10:00 btw. Do not drive. Romans are crazy drivers. Stay there in rome though. It was the best hotel I stayed at in Italy. Any restaurant you go to will be great. I didnt have a bad meal the whole time. The places by the pantheon were my favorite. For your trip by a Rick Steves book. We got most of our ideas outta that. If you go to the Vatican, do not eat there or buy and food. HUGE RIPOFF. If you like to drink and are like twenty something, Campo de Fiori is awesome. Just an absolute **** show.
Venice is nice for about two or three days. There is not much to do. Just hope you get a sunny day. No nightlife at all. See st. mark's square and the Doge's palace. That's about it.
If you are flexible try visiting Florence. My favorite italian city. There is a good night life and the sights are amazing. The city is small too and you can walk wherever you need to go.
My advice is to learn some Italian before you go. Just pick up a phrase book and look it over on the plane ride there. It comes in handy if you get lost. Especially in Rome. Try not to get ripped off by tourist crap. People will literally try to take your money and get really pissy at you. |

To get reasonably priced accommodation in any of these places, try using www.hostelworld.com, they don't just do hostels. You'll need a credit card to make a booking.
Tuscany is beautful, and well worth seeing. I've travelled through it by train and bus. I'd recommend visiting the city of Siena, as well as the city of Florence. I suggest taking the train from Rome to Florence, spending a couple of nights there, then taking the train out to Siena, and you could spend a night or two there, it's lovely but unless they're preparing for the Palio, don't plan on staying for long. But it does give you an idea of Mediaeval Italy. Then you could take the train to Venice.
I suggest investing in a DK Eyewitness Guide to Italy, it would be very helpful and very useful to you, and a gorgeous souvenir of your visit. And make sure you try the local food, it's just delicious and very healthy. |

Dollar is weaker than Euro, so expect to pay outrageous amounts for food and drink. Be careful about your money there are pickpockets, but if you are sensible it's not a big deal. Our hotel was not cute, so I can't recommend something from where we stayed in Rome. You will do massive amounts of walking so get comfy shoes before. There will be many who will NOT speak any English, so get a good phrase book.
Tourist traps expect you to bargain for souvenirs. If you don't you will definitely overpay! The food is wonderful! - But it is not like Olive Garden. |

The prices both in rome and venice are quite expensive. If you are in Rome ,and you wanna go to tuscany(florence for example, but in tuscany there are lots of beautiful places, such as San geminiano, siena, pisa, volterra,it's up to you,and little countries:abbadia san salvatore ),it takes you 3 hrs to go,and 3hrs to come back Rome.Yeah the way italian drives is a bit weird, and sometimes dangerous, but you can drive anyway.
Since it's a romantic trip,if you go to rome,be sure to eat in some reastaurant in Trastevere, they're kinda expensive, but they're romantic and characteristic, and food is good.B4 going to tuscany,be sure you visit all the most important landmarks in Rome.I don't know any B&B,but if you wanna stay in Rome I suggest you,the Castro Pretoria aerea, that it's not noisy, and more affordable, and well located,or if you wanna something romantic,go to the center of the city in via veneto, but they are more expensive.Unfortunately i can suggest you things only about Rome,I'm roman, and i've never been to Venice
Hope ya enjoy ur trip,if you wanna know something else, hit me up |

With a car and nine days, you've got a lot of flexibility. I'd recommend driving up through Tuscany though. For example, from Rome to Siena and then on from there through the wine areas to Florence. Other possibilities would be zigzagging up through Orvieto, Perugia, and Arezzo to Florence. Then you could continue north toward Mantova and Verona and across to Padova and Venice. There are a lot of local food & wine festivals at that time of year. The last few days of your trip coincide with the wine festival in Bardolino on Lake Garda near Verona. There's also a big rice festival in Isola della Scala just south of Verona. Ferrara has a balloon festival during your trip.
There's a calendar of food festivals in Tuscany here: http://www.giraitalia.it/sagre/toscana/settembre.html and one for all Italy here: http://www.sagreinitalia.it/ - these are in Italian, but shouldn't be too difficult to figure out.
This is the site I use for finding accomodations the past 9 years here in Italy - http://en.venere.com/italy/ |

1. Hotels
Being romano (=born in Roma) I'd say stay 3 days at least there.
Just avoid Roma hotels in the immediate surroundings of the Stazione Termini. Try for instance this 4* no breakfast 90€ couple a day circa
Residence Vatican Suites
Via Nicolo´ V 5
00165 Roma, Italia
visit Tripadvisor, the choice is enourmous and feedbacks are true.
2. Coast or Countryside?
Definitely Countryside: latin, medioeval or renaissance cities are better.
Visit for instance some smaller places on the go like Orvieto, Pienza. Siena is nice also
Have a bath in the warm thermal healing waters of Viterbo, Saturnia or Bagno Vignoni
Sleep in agriturismi (www.agriturismi.it) if you like the countryside.
Discover the Etruschi tombs and lifestyle in Tarquinia.
3. Car, Train or Plane?
Car to go to countryside (a navigator might help you), train to visit big cities like Firenze or Napoli. Plane to go far: Torino / Palermo.
I'd recommend a smaller car to be agile in town or a medium car to exploit the Highway. Driving in town is ok, if you're not Lewis Hamilton.
It will cost you anyway to drop it in another town. If you pick it up in a city location (no airport or train station) you'll save a little percentage tax, unless you have an all inclusive fare.
Benvenuti, Buon Viaggio e Buon Compleanno! |

You can come to Philippines and if you go tothe SM Mall of Asia there is a Korean restaurant,Chinese , Indonesian , Japanese, Thai ,Filipino and other Asian restaurant and if you want to stay in a white sand beach with lots of partying at night go to Boracay I think prices in Philippines is cheaper compared to Rome.Great shopping places. |
