If you're staying in Perugia, you certainly should see Assisi - you can see it from the old town in Perugia. The Umbria Jazz Festival is a world-class event which runs in Perugia from the 10th to the 19th of July.
Both Rome and Florence are pretty easy trips on the train and obvious choices since you've never been to either. Venice is further, but worth going to visit. I would highly recommend going for Il Redentore on the 18th of July. The fireworks over the lagoon are excellent (they start around 11 pm). The Biennale will be running this year in Venice too.
Arezzo is a short trip on the train and has an interesting old town; another good choice would be Orvieto. Siena is a great destination. Sorrento, Capri and the Amalfi Coast are always good in the summer. While you're in that area be sure to see Pompeii.

IF you want some ocean time go to Sorrento and Capri. Capri is where the Roman emporers vacationed and its easy to see why. Rome of course is another cool city because of its history and crazy churches. There is a chapel right beside Romes Lambourguini dealership that has a huge crypt where you see mummies and skeletons! Assissi is also very nice as well as Florence. |

OMG there millions of places to go. You would need a life to see the whole Italy. Just think that, according with what UNESCO says, in Italy there is more than the 50% of the worldwide cultural patrimony. Of course u have to see Rome and Florence, and if u can Venice and Napoli. But being that u will be in Perugia, I suggest you 2 little town close Perugia: Assisi, the town of S. Francis( wich is very beautiful) and Orvieto, the Dome of Orvieto is just amazing. |
