Going to Naples, Italy - Garbage problem? |
I am heading to Naples in August for work and a bit of sightseeing on the side. Heard and read a lot about the garbage problem there. Is it really that bad? Does anyone know whether the garbage piling up has happened even in areas like Capri, Pompeii, Sorrento? Should I postpone my trip or confine myself to the outskirts / regions around Naples....maybe Sorrento? |

i live in naples, and the situation is really bad under some different aspects. anyway... the situation in the city and pompei sorrento capri is perfect, never been this problem there. in the city there is, but not in turists area, muuuch more in some far neighborough. anyway i'd suggest you to come in september, not for the garbage, but for the weather, in august is really really hot, many shops are closed, and many neighborough are empty due to the fact that we have entire august vacation. in that period, the city is a little bit more dangerous for turists, and there are few things to do compared with other months. september-october-march-april-may are the best months here.

at the moment people are working out to solve the garbage emergency in Naples. in some places of the city such as the centre (Mergellina, Chiaia, via Roma) there isn't ANY garbage, the streets are quite clean. In areas such as Sorrento, Capri, Ischia, Pompei and other tourist areas garbage has been removed for tourism. if I were you, i wouldn't worry a lot about this problem because garbage has never been in the areas where the tourists go. |

in Capri Pompei and Sorrento this problem doesn't exist,but in Naples and around it it does...it is a very sad and real problem that the Italian govern is trying to solve using the army but it isn't so simple because many person have an income from it, but in the touristic places shouldn't be problem...So enjoy your travel!! |

Well you have to know that the center of Naples is clean as the periphery is piggy.
I visiteted Naples 2 weeks ago , so I can tell you that this is a good period for tourists in Naples.
The "turistic" city is economic and clean.
What you see on tv or Internet is substantially an Italian political prblem.
