You can get a half day (14 euro) or full day (16 euro) ticket on the vaporetto for euro to get around. Individual trips are 6.50 euro each. I usually just walk through Venice, but it's worth taking at least one trip down the Grand Canal to see the palazzos. The vaporetto is an equivalent to a bus in cities with traditional streets.
Obviously, you'll want to spend some time in Piazza San Marco. Both the Basilica San Marco and the Doge's Palace are worth going inside. A lot of the fun is exploring the canals and bridges. The Correr museum on the other side of the piazza is interesting. Have a caffe in either Florians or Quadri - not inexpensive, but a nice break.
There's a good outdoor market near the Rialto bridge where there are tourist souvenirs, fruit and vegetables, and vin brule stands. There's a small, but nice Christmas market in Campo San Stefano near the Accademia bridge. There's also a cafe that has pretty good bruschetta. Depending on your interests, the Accademia is a good art gallery or there's the Guggenheim for more contemporary art. The Naval Museum is pretty interesting. I like to walk by the Arsenale - there are some good lion sculptures there.
If you have the time and the inclination, you can take the vaporetto to Murano and see the glass making exhibitions. It's pretty commercial, but not bad if you like that kind of thing. |

the rialto, san marco square, and the grand canal.they are the hotspots to see.you can see the grand canal cheaper by going on the canal boats they travel up and down it daily and cost half nothing.much cheaper then the condola rides and you can get off at the stops along the way too.it's one of the most amazing places in the world as far as i am concerned and can't wait to get back there myself. |
