Sani Tourist House is a good place to stay, although not exactly a hotel. There are few frills, but it is located in a quiet area that is close to the best things to see in the city, like the museums. I stayed there two years ago and thought it was acceptable. |

This is a directory of hotels.
just copy and paste. Then scroll down through 129 hotels!!
Just know when you check into an italian hotel it is normal procedure fo rthem to take your passport and keep it until ou leave the hotel at final check-out.
(Always travel with a copy of you passport and leave copies of it at home with friends in America. This is a time trouble saving device in case you should lose it while travelling.)
Also be aware that seating in restaurants is fairly different than the sates. Italians keep very regualr schedules. Everyone does the same thing at the same time of day.
Breakfast is over after 10 am - you just don't eat until lunch! Lunch in a restaurant will seat around 12 - 1:00 - 1:30 latest --after that you may not get a table or a proper lunch.
Generally stores close between 1pm to 4pm. If you need bus tokens or tokens for public telephones buy them before 1:00 or after 4 in "tabacherria" - tobacco and stamp shops - yes this is where you buy francoboli (stamps) for your postcards.
Don't wear shorts!! Definately not in any cathedrals (you will likely be turned away) or in any churches. Also you can't wear sleeveless tops. You won't want sandals because you'll probably be walking a lot.
Dinner is at 8pm or later. Everyone will be out strolling the piazzas in the spring and summer. Soooo nice. And definately have some gelato!
Panna, Creama, Cicolata, oh! I can taste it now!
Italy has many free concerts and festivals throughout the summer! Enjoy! |
