Hello,
(ANS) You cannot make generalizations about anyone, I think Italy is a country with a large population so you will find all manner of people. You will find lovely Italians who are kind & generous and clever & highly intelligent , you will also find Italians who are dreadful, not well informed and have bigoted views just like any place you travel too.
*The modern Italy has been shaped by its long & rich history, has seen its fair share of wars and numerous dictators. Has been shaped for better or worse by the pope and the Catholic church and catholicism.
**I definitely dislike Mr. Belescoinni I think he is far to powerful, he is nothing more than a wolf in sheep's clothing, he is clearly a Fascist and probably is corrupt too, and probably has links with the Italian Mafia.
**Italy is a wonderful country and has great landscapes & great beauty, has wonderful food & wonderful wines. Its a place I'd love to visit again at some point in my life.

Well, in the first reply you have the stereotypical view of the Italians held by many Brits. During WWII in the desert campaign, Mussolini's troops swept across N. Africa very quickly. But when the allied forces confronted them, large contingents of Italian troops surrendered, often to very few allied soldiers, gaining the Italians the reputation of cowardice. This, together with some of the unfounded propaganda from the war (Italians are dirty, devious, work-shy, stupid, etc.), have stuck, and even today, many Brits hold to this distorted picture of Italy and Italians.
But you will find that many in Britain do not hold to this travesty of reality. Italy is a beautiful country with a noble and rich past, while Italians are very much like other peoples, humourous, passionate, hard-working, intelligent, etc., but sometime also infuriating, bureaucratic, officious, garroulous as well. |
