As someone else suggested, don't go in those restaurants that have their menĂ¹ wrote in english before than in italian: they're tourist places, you spend a lot and you eat bad. And don't go as well in those places called "Hostaria".

I can suggest a pair of good restaurants:

"Le Naumachie", Via Celimontana, near the Coliseum: try their Naumachie Noodles or their hoax mozzarella.

If you'll be in Trastevere you'll find a lot of good and cheap restaurants.

In the Jewish district, between the Tiber Island and Largo Argentina try "Da Gigetto", typical roman cooking.

Outside the city center you can try:

if you like meat: "I Butteri", Piazza Regina Margherita.

If you like fish: "Costa Paradiso", typical sardinian cooking. It's in Via Isonzo, a street that crosses Via Salaria.
