There is only one supermarket in Venice AFAIK. Go to the Pesceria (food market) near Rialto bridge for or walk along the way from Rialto bridge to the train station. It is a long walk, but somewhere along it is a (small) supermarket. I cannot remember the name of the street though.
If you are still looking for places to stay, I can recommend http://www.plusvillages.com/ for Rome. Supermarket right across the street.
I can also recommend staying at Camping Spartacus in Pompeii - close to a supermarket too with the circumvesuviana train station just across the street.

Both camping sites are clean and modern and have bungalows to rent. |

in termini there is a sizeable CONAD in the lowest floor
there are no supermarkets in st marks of course but there are good groceries all over the city. usually they are small outlets of Italian branches. a good one is Billa, just off Strada Nova... but you have to be ready to walk there since it's not on the canal. Check your map and ask locals. |

see what "genius cook" suggested.
There's one more supermarket at Piazzale Rome (along the waterfront where the waterbuses stop) called "coop".
ah, by the way, near St. Mark's, go and see one at Salizada San Lio (this is the name of a street between Rialto and St. Mark's) |

There is no real supermarket next to Piazza San Marco - thank God!
You'll have to either go to Via Garibaldi in Castello (make sure you have a shopping cart) to find a "Coop" or take the vaporetto from Saint Mark's to San Basiglio at the end of the Zattere (next to the terminal) and there you'll find a "Billa".
Can't help you with Rome. |
