In the summer of 2005, my family stayed in a wonderful villa in Monticiano, Italy in Tuscany. It was a beautiful small town in the Tuscan countryside less than 1 hour from Siena and the Chianti region. From here you can take many day trips to Siena, San Gimigniano, Volterra, Massa Maritima, Montalcino, Pienza, Montipulciano, Monteriggioni, Cortona - all of which I highly recommend. You can even walk to the famous ruins of San Galgano! All of these towns will make you forget about the hustle and bustle of your regular daily life and bring you to a quieter, more peaceful time.
The link to the villa we stayed at is here: http://www.rentvillas.com/PropertyDetail.aspx?Catalog=4422 This particular villa is very inexpensive (only about US$800 per week in the high summer season). For a family of 4, you can easily pay about €150-200 per night for a quad hotel room. Here, for about US$100 a night, you get about 1000 square feet of space - a full 2 bedroom apartment! Even if this villa doesn't excite you, check a little deeper on the rentvillas.com site and you'll see there are many other choices...
Good luck! |
