Study it in Italy where programs are total immersion.

GO TO ITALY!

If you want to become very good in Italian find a school in a smaller town, like Orvietto, where you will be forced to use your Italian. If you are starting from scratch and have the time and money, allow three months.

Immersion is the best way.... If you can afford to go to Italy and take courses, it would be great. There you would be forced to speak the language.

I would give yourself 3 months....

You could also take classes here in the states. Buy the cds --Rosetta Stone to get started. Join Italian forums... Get involved in things related to Italy.

CiaoBella
Study it in Italy because immersion is the best way to learn a language. I would set aside AT LEAST 3 - 6 months, depending on how good you are with languages. That way you can experience the culture and get practice using it on a daily basis.
