Has anyone been to Sardinia or Sicilly? Would you recommend either for a winter holiday?

I have been to Sicily and in the summer it is beautiful. Lemon, orange, flowers everywhere. Plants are in full bloom, weather is wonderful....the sea, the warm nights....
WOW.
Anyway, in Winter, I am sure that while it is cooler, it can still be a wonderful experience. After all, it is still warm enough to go outside and be comfortable, unless you go to Mount Etna which you cannot miss. There are also fewer festivals, but also fewer tourists therefore it will be cheaper which will also allow you to do more.
Either way, enjoy. It is not hard. ;-)

I've been to both. Sicily I went to the old part of Syracuse and Sardinia I stayed in a couple of places in the NE corner, Costa Smerelda area. Both were really lovely, Sicily was particularly good for seafood, but it was a long time ago. I went to Sardinia last year, so a more recent memory.

As a favourite I would probably go for Sardinia as the coastline where we were was stunning, there were beautiful and interesting places to visit inland and the food (both the budget places and the expensive) was really lovely.

I didn't go to either in winter I'm afraid so not sure on that but an online search should give you good info on the temps in both places.

I went to Sardinia last October for 4 days, I flew to Cagliari and then drove to Villasimius where I stayed at the Simius Playa. The hotel was fantastic and the setting is great...highly recommended

Sicily is a fabulous place to visit in winter - someone mentioned Taormina and I would definitley agree. It's stunningly gorgeous and still pretty mild in winter. Basically there's something for everyone. Here are some photos.

For a winter holiday you have most probability to find a good weather in Sicily and, with no possibility to make a seaside holiday (In winter is quite cold) Sicily give you lot ot things to visit (Agrigento, Siracusa, Palermo, Piazza Armerina...)

I've been to both, but no during the winter. Sardinia is different from Italy, but very nice, here I suggest you to stay in Cagliari ( the hotel Calamosca sul Mare is amazing ), and from here to do trips in the island. Sicily is very beautiful and you can stay in Palermo (the capital) in a hotel just near the beach and than you can visit the others resorts. But, don't forget, I was in summer and it was gorgeous.

I have been to both, not in winter though.

Taormina in Sicilly is fantastic and there are some really nice hotels along the coast road. I stayed in a campsite on a hill and watched Etna erupting in the distance. Probably the best thing I have ever seen!

Sardinia is also beautiful although I am not sure how much will be open (restaurants etc.) in the winter months. I went there last year out of summer season (May) and alot was closed.

I can recommend Rome in the winter if you didn't mind city break. Lots going on and amazing people.

Ive been Sardinia in the summer and had a good holiday but it was a beach type holiday. I did hire a car and explore the country about the size of Wales I think, so make sure you take a driving licence

I lived in Sicily for 5 yrs. Winters are wonderful but you can have some winter storms. Otherwise the weather is very mild and Sicily is one of the most fun places on earth. Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I visited Sicily during a school trip...it was wonderful! Starting from Jesi, near Ancona, I travelled by bus to Naples, then I travelled by ship to Palermo. Palermo, Monreale, Agrigento, Porto Empedocle, Taormina, Noto are magic towns...I strongly recommend you to visit them all. But Siracuse was my favourite. I saw there two greek tragedies in the ancient greek theatre (Medea by Euripide and Edipo King by Sofocle) it was a unique experience.

For what concerns Sardinia I stayed there in August, when it is full of tourists...probably in October you could appreciate a more autentic island.

But as you can understand I advice you to visit Sicily...it is in my heart!

i spent 2 yrs in the Mediterranean and traveled to most of the countries including Sicily --i would recommend Majorca, DE Pal ma--or the Greek islands, Corfu . Most people speak some English, I had some problems with the Greek language. Take care
