You must go to Rome and see the Sistine chapel, and the Roman coliseum, There is so much to see you could spend a week in Rome alone. The little island of Sorrento is very vice you can get a water taxi there. Pisa, is where the leaning tower is. The food is excellent just about anywhere you go. The sidewalk cafes are very nice as well, try the limoncello, a lemony tasting alcoholic drink.

A word of caution, if you take public transportation guard your wallet and money. The minor aged pick pockets are everywhere and they are very good. In three days in Italy we caught one with her hand in someones purse, and another with his hand trying to steal a wallet. The police just slap them on the hand and let them loose to start all over. Wear a vest with front top pockets and button them with your valuables there, or get a money belt.

I've been to Rome and loved it - I'm definately planning on going back again.

There's loads of places to visit and see and do there - the Colliseum, The Spanish Steps, The Vatican and plenty of other places. You can get a useful handbook guide from any decent local bookstore, such as Waterstones, for a few pound. It'll tell you what places there are to visit, and give a bit of detail/history about them too.

Eating out and the nightlife is good too. Its not so much clubbing, but more nice bars where you can have a reasonably relaxing drink til late, which is much more up my street! The restaurants are all pretty good, they sell traditional Italian dishes, as well as others, such as Chinese.

I went to Italy in April. My favorite place we visited was the Isle of Capri. From Sorrento, you can take a boat over. I do not reccommend spending all your time in Italy there, because it is a very small island, and things can get very expensive there. There is a beach there, but it is very rocky, and not at all sandy. When I went to Italy, we went to Sorrento for a few days, and visited Capri one of those days. The others we went to Pompeii and climbed Mt. Vesuvius, and went to Naples. I reccommend any of these places! After spending time in Sorrento, we traveled to Rome. If you have heard bad rumors about Rome, don't be turned off. Rome is kind of a dirty city, but what city isn't? And, Rome is all part of the Italy experiance! There, you can see the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum, the Imperial Forum, Castel Sant Angelo, and all that great stuff.

Hiya - Ive spent a bit of time on the Amalfi Coast and highly recommend it. BEAUTIFUL part of the world, breathtaking scenery and lovely people.

Also Capri, for sheer over the top-ness! Wonderful place, designer shops etc.

Finally, Bay if Naples, in particular Sorrento. I got engaged there and went back for my honeymoon and LOVE it.

What you might benefit from is paying a visit to your local bookstore and picking up a travel book on Italy and having a read, seeing if you can narrow down where you like to go

Last January I went to Italy for a week (not long enough). I recommend going when it is not tourist season because I think that could kind of ruin the experience , I have heard. Jan. was great, it was cold of course but there was really hardly any tourist. The Italians were so friendly and fun. We had such a great time. We went to Rome, Florence and Venice. I really would love to go back and see more untourist cities. Rome was my favorite, it is so alive all the time. There is so much to do and see there. The food is fabulous too. Next I liked Venice, it was a rally fairytale city. Florence had a lot of American students, and for some reason I just didn't like it as much as Rome and Venice. I think you will have a great time where ever you go. I have heard the Amalfi coast is beyond beautiful. And people always talk of how wonderful Tuscany is.

it depends..
if u go in august most things will be shut al ot of the time and it is absolutely baking! i used to live in rome and its a beautiful city... as for the beaches sardinia and sicily are really really nice.
florence and venice are definately worth visiting too!

Italian beauty

I've been living in Italy all my live 'till now that I moved to Ireland.
I used to live in Milan, It's a wonderful place especially if you love shopping. There are lots of restaurants and hotels around central Milan and if you will like to go the beach then you may travel for about 2 hours to "Mar Ligure" in liguria (Genova) (i don't know the English name for it.) It's a wonderful beach!!!!!!

im 16 and just got back from a week in italy

i went to rome for 3 nights and tuscany for 4.. =)

for my age group i wouldnt recommend rome, i have travelled alot in my life and could honestly say i would prefer to go to spain or barbados!.. because there is not much to do at night, only touring in the day but it is very nice :),

Hotels are quite expensive aswel as food, drink and clothes! so we stayed in a nice little 3 star in the city centre..we eat at pizzerias every night and went to irish bars most nights as well..

I would recommend going on a tourist bus, me and my family got a ticket for two days and sore he whole of rome and it was worth it because you can get of and jump back on whenever so we got to see the colloseam and everything else..

We didnt go to the beach in rome but in tuscany we did, there were rlly nice and the water is so shallow you can go really far out and still have your top half over water..

In rome, there are ALOT of tramps and gypsys.. they are everywere and there is a lot of grafitit but you ignor that when your there..

Hands down, the best beaches are in Sardegna. The water in Costa Smeralda is the clearest in the Mediterranean. So clear that tourism agencies from other Mediterranean islands used pictures of it in their ads (and were busted). Keep in mind that in August everyone in Italy is on vacation - so hot spots like Sardegna are absolutly packed and twice as expensive as usual.

Also, I recommend eating at least once at an agriturismo. These are farms that keep their own restaurants. It's a great way to try a home-cooked Italian meal. Oh, the cheeses are phenomenal....

I have had the pleasure of visiting Italy. I stayed in these campsites that are so much fun to stay in. I must tell you, you have to go on a gondola it's amazing I thought I was going to fall out of the boat. here u can find a lot of different monumet, a lot of markets where u kan have shopping and...a lot of restaurant..slurp!!!pizza here is...super iper good!!!!!!but also pasta is good and thre are a lot of different kinds of deliciuos foods!!!

I love the beaches in the Northwest close to the French Border. My favorite city for sightseeing is Florence. Milan is the place to shop. I lived in Pisa for several years and favor Northern Italy over the South.

I went to rome - and i hated it - i thought it was dirty , there were quite a few beggars and overcrowded.

However , if your looking for muesiums and history , its deffinately a place to go .

I live in Rome - it's dirty and full of mostly rude lazy and ignorant Italians.

The last civilized Italians inhabited Rome over 2000 years ago, this present bunch is anything but civilized and effectively live off the merits of what their forefathers constructed.

I have lived in many countries and cities and Rome is without doubt the worst I have seen.
