I particularly like Ravello too, but it would be hard to go wrong staying in any of the towns. If you go there visit the villas - beautiful gardens and spectacular views.
In addition to taking the boat to Capri, I would highly recommend taking the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Pompeii for a day. It's a fascinating place. Erculano is another place that was destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius and is well worth a visit. |

Oh yes, it's beautiful. We stayed in Sorrento, up on the hill. You can get to Capri and Naples easy enough. Visit the Sorrento musical dinner in the centre of Sorrento for a nice evening out. Amalfi is beautiful too. You must do the Amalfi coast ride it's stunning - do it by bus/coach or you will miss a lot by car as it's difficult to see over the walled sides. Have fun! |

It's wonderful. I went to Positano, gorgeous little village. I'd love to spend a month there. |

Amalfi itself is sleepy, lovely, accessable to other places. Try to get a hotel that hangs off a cliff. Worth the extra for one or two nights. Breathtaking. |

I'm italian and I've been there. It's just fantastic! Napoli, Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano.....all the cost! But also the cost of Genova it's great! Camogli, portofino, cinque terre. |

I've stayed 2x in Sorrento. Use it as a homebase while you take day trips around the area. Sorrento is small enough that you can get a good feel for it in one day/night. two nights might be pushing it a bit, depending on what type of traveller you are.
Daytrips that I've done:
Pompeii (45 min by train)
Capri (30 min ferry)
Positano (45 min bus along the coast, if you get nauseous easily I might recommend the train instead, but if you can stomach it the ride along the coast is beautiful.)
Ischia is an alternative to Capri, though I've never been.
Amalfi is nearby, but again, I've never been.
I'm going back to the Amalfi Coast in May, my plan this time is to either stay in Naples or Positano, but definitely to visit both. There is something called the "Walk of the Gods" that starts near Positano ("Sentiero degli Dei" in Italian), a walk along the top of the cliffs, the view is supposed to be bellissima!
Also, I know that you can take trips up to the Mt.Vesuvio, to the crater, and there is a Vesuvius national park or something.
hope this helped! |

It's beautiful. You don't do anything - just enjoy it. If you've never been and you don't speak the language, it's probably best to get a package deal that includes flight, hotel and transfer. Ravello is fantastic, but don't try to nick the Cathedral doors. |
