I'm 25 minutes from Lake Como, 10 minutes from Lake Lugano, and 40 minutes from Lake Maggiore.
These lakes are the top of the top....I take my car and in ten minutes I'm at the Lake Lugano Riviera. I fact, I'm getting ready to go swimming right now.
I was in Lake Como last Tuesday...I did the whole lake walk, but there are many places to visit, from cascades, to the Volta lighthouse on top of Mount Fusco, then the art galleries, and all the silk shops in the center of Como. Como is famous for silk production.
At lake Maggiore, you may find botanical gardens, the islands, one of them retreat of Napoleon. Go to www.lagomaggiore.net.
Time to go...bye and good luck
P.S. Andrew is right...I forgot about it. Lake Orta on the other side of Lake Maggiore and Varese. Everybody here says is very, very nice. |

I often go to Lake Orta as it is not far from my home in Turin
It may not be as big as the other Italian lakes but the lovely atmosphere and natural beauty more than make up for this and it is by far the most picturesque.
This to me is one of the most romantic places in all of Italy and my wife agrees completely. It’s perfect for that romantic long weekend!!
Lake Orta or Lago di Orta – to give it its Italian name, is 13.5kms/ eight miles long and surrounded by mountains covered in lush vegetation. The setting alone is breathtaking but the jewel in the crown, so to speak, is undoubtedly the island of San Giulio in the middle of lake Orta dominated by its thirteenth century basilica and convent |
