I have been to cinque terre and vernazza is the best of the five towns for il dolce far niente-the sweetness of doing nothing-I mean that in the very best sense of the word. Just being there, relaxing, eating, watching, walking is blissful. Buon viaggio

The Cinque Terre is known for its scenery. If you need a break from the cities and the museums this is the place for you to burn off some the calories you have gained from all the good food. It is no longer the unknown jewel it once was. It's loaded with tourist but it's still a good place to visit. Compared to other places on the coast it's not too expensive.

Cinque Terre is amazing! I used to live in Itlay near there and friends of ours had a vineyard in Cinque Terre. Obviously on clear days it is better since the views are spectacular, but just about any time is good there. I would highly recommend wearing extremely good walking shoes (not sandals) as there are many steep hills. But it is definitely worth it! And stop by one of the local shops and buy the local wine - it's excellent!

The Cinque Terre is extremely crowded May - September with college students, Americans and Germans. The scenery is the big attraction. Small towns / villages virtually clinging on the hillsides and terracing down to the water. It is very beautiful and each town has its unique charm. I recommend walking from town to town and also taking a boat ride. If you are not into hiking you can also take the train to / from the various towns. There really aren't a lot of beaches but you can sun yourself on the rocks. Wine is good and food is fantastic. Best shopping is in Monteroso.
