your mom has reason. Tuscany is the most beautiful, most wonderful and most incredible place I've never visited

In Tuscany I'm born, bred and still living.
No doubts, it's a great region, commonly recognized as the most awesome in the whole Italy.
Here in Tuscany we have everything you might require.
We have the sea, the beaches (sandy and rocky), the islands, the lakes, the rivers, the woods, the mountains, the hills, the cities (and the villages) of art, the good wine, the countryside, the breathtaking landscapes, the olive oil, the best Italian cooking, the quiet and the relax, the green (even in the towns), the temperate weather, the cheerful people, the dialect closest to standard Italian, the leather and the countless artistical handcrafts.
So many things to remember that I'm sure I've forgot some. Living here, even for a short time, it would be for you an unforgettable experience.

It is an absolutely beautiful area of Italy. Florence (Firenze) is probably the most widely known city of the area. I don't know what to tell you other than it's beautiful. I'd love to go back and spend at least a month there. Just going to all the smaller towns, doing a walking tour, perhaps.

Yes, it is gorgeous! I would recommend biking in the country side as well as Florence. So much to see and do in Tuscany. If you can, rent a villa in the country side as opposed to a hotel. Most have pools as well, can be affordable, too!

Yes, Tuscany is lovely, although there are parts of it that are so dry, dusty and barren as to remind one of the less interesting parts of the American West. Although it is wildly popular with foreigners, even among those who've never been to Italy, you should know that it is by no means the most beautiful region in Italy. In my opinion, Umbria is far lovelier, and Sardinia, for example, is absolutely breathtaking.
