Has anyone ever cruised the Mediterrean leaving from Rome?

We want to spend several days prior to the cruise in Rome and are unsure of booking plane and hotel reservations thru cruise line OR should we do our own plane/hotel reservations. Concern is getting from Rome to cruise port/transfers, etc. Will hotels arrange these things.

The closest harbour from wich ctuise ships depart from Roma is Civitavecchia (80 km in North direction).
It easy to be reached by train every 30 min.

I don't know if your hotel can arrange it but it is not difficult to oragnize by yourself.

Your best option is going to be to use a travel agent or book with the cruise line. That way you know what you are getting. Some hotels may offer this, but it will depend how far you are from the port.

If you use a travel agent they will be able to let you know everything you need for the trip so that you don't have to be concerned. Otherwise, book with the cruiseline. You may not have as many options, but you can feel more confident in what you book.

Hope this helps!

Sorry, can't help you with your actual question but do have some advice though, please by travel insurance, you never know what might happen or possibly what hole in the wall you sleep at.

Being a travel agent, let me tell you this...if you book with Princess (just an example) they have airfare that hands down will be lower than what you can get, unless your travel agent can get wholesale air tickets for you. BE CAREFUL though, they do mark them up quite a bit, so check all options, be it you booking on your own, using a travel agent and the cruise line. As far as hotels, most all major cruise lines have pre or post travel options available, they are with hotels that the cruise lines give business to and are highly reputable. Hope that helps you some.
