Has anyone ever vacationed in Portofino, Italy? If so - what is there to do? Was it terribly expensive?

Let me tell you about Italy-forget about "to do"
Italy is a place "to be"
Just walking, looking, watching and interacting with the people, the slow pace of life, eating the food that makes you wonder what it was you had been eating before coming to Italy.
As for Portofino-it IS very expensive and polished for the rich tourist. I recommend going to Cinque Terre instead-also, very picturesque, but quaint and more affordable.

Portofino is beautiful small old seaside place with charming hotels, worth the money unique experience is like to be in heaven. The life style of the stars not terribily expensive for what you get.

Portofino is a small fishermen port. The names probably means "Portus Delphini" or Dolphin port. It is a small town, the few residents sold the houses to the rich people from all over the world. Actors were living here (Rex Harrison) and politicians still live here (Berlusconi). The town is a small harbor, several expensive restaurants, a few expensive bar, NO MUSIC or night places. If you have a big yacht you can stay here. If you have a big Ferrari you can drive here. Otherwise, you can came with a public bus from Santa Margherita and then walk all over the mount of Portofino, a natural park full of trekking paths. Three nights ago I was having dinner with my wife in Portofino and at the table next to us was Ivana Trump. Like it or not.
