Has anyone recently been to Tuscany?

If you have do you mind telling me, where you went, places you visited, etc. I am interested because I am planning a trip to Tuscany and want to know more about places to go and stay. As well I am looking to buy in Tuscany. Any information would be great.

My answer might be influenced by the fact I'm born and bred in Tuscany but it's worldwide known that this is definitively the nicest region of the whole Italy.
Previous answers say is not that nice, is not as on the movies
( BTW Venice is not in Tuscany...!!!). I'm not agree, I would say it's even better than on the movies but you need to stay here quietely, not in a hurry, breath the ambience and hear centuries of history whispered by the medieval buildings of our awesome towns. Here in our region we have really a lot of cities and sites that no any other Italian region can say to have.
Just to be concise we have the seasides and the islands, the rivers and the lakes, the mountains and the hills and the woods, the green is wherever, even in the towns. We have a lot of wonderful medieval cities ( Florence, Pise, Siena, Lucca, Arezzo, ect.) and smaller towns (San Gimignano, Pienza, Chiusi, Volterra ,etc.) Our history is overcrowded with artists as Dante Alighieri, Giotto, Beato Angelico, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, ect.
Last but not least everywhere in Tuscany you can taste good food and good wines (our Brunello and our Chianti Classico are famous all over the world as well as our renowned cooking).
I'm sure I've forgot something since we have so many things that's impossible to recall of them (we are also in a favourable position as to the weather, never too hot or too cold, just temperate).
I don't know what you effectively want buy here but I've many foreign neighbours having bought houses, farms, villas, etc. and I don't think there are special requirements, just you need a lot of money since our area (in dependence of the fact that is the most demanded for buying) is rather expensive.

Tuscany is not what you see in the movies. The best areas of Tuscany are on the beach. Contrary to what you see in the movies, living in Europe is a challenge, especially to an American. It is hard to communicate and things that you take for granted here are just not available in Italy or most places in Europe. I don't even know if a foreigner can buy land in Italy without being a resident or citizen. That is your first hurdle. Don't assume anything - I would visit several times and then do from there. EDIT: Re above: since when is Venice in Tuscany?
Ha Ha!

Tuscany is great! you'll have a wonderful time-weve been twice-it's not a bad idea to find a good location like Siena and do day trips from there. The surrounding areas have so much to offer-we particularly enjoyed Montepuciano a hilltop city with great Cheeses(pecorino) and delicious wines(montepulciano, Brunello D Montalcino) to name a few- Lucca, another great city, Volterra, San Gimiangno(very touristy) The chianti Classico region(many beautiful wineries and driving on the country roads is a pleasure in its self. There are so many places to visit- If you can make it to the coast of Liguria check out the Cinque Terra (5 towns) all connected together- if you like hiking you can walk all 5 and enjoy the foods and wine of each one!

I live here in Tuscany. It's not as great as it seems in the movies...trust me. It's okay. The people don't pick up their trash they just throw it on the ground and graffiti is everywhere! But if u really want to come here then of course, you should see the leaning tower in Pisa...u MIGHT be able to climb up it but it depends on it's stability at the moment. Carrara is a good place for marble items. Firenze/Florence is 45 min. away from Pisa about. I went to Venice also. The gondola thing is expensive, and it's an okay experience as well. In the summer time it doesn't smell too nice while your on that gondola because the water is "polluted" and heated "polution" isn't good. Streets are narrow here so don't think about bringing Escalades over here...they'll just get messed up. The most beautiful place I've been to while I've lived here for 2 1/2 years is probably a small place called Portofino. You should DEFFINATELY go there. It's so pretty. I think that's about it.
