Yes. My dad was in the Army, and my family and I were stationed in Vicenza, Italy (Go Cougars!) from 1984-1986. Vicenza is a beautiful city just 45 minutes or so North of Venice. I was just about to turn 13 when we moved there, so 3 years of my teenage life was a unique experience, and truly awesome! Other than Colorado, Italy was the best place we ever lived! The culture is wonderful, and a little humorous at times (just watching them talk to each other sometimes when we first moved there, we thought they were arguing, found out they just tend to talk loud and use their hands a lot. lol) . But the people are friendly, and they LOVE babies!! My parents used to get stopped all the time because some of the Italians wanted to see my baby sister. She was just a few months old when we moved there.

Anyway, I'll tell you some of the best places to go there, and the towns:

Vicenza- Teatro Olimpico (Olympic Theater)- It's an old theater where they show plays, and the stage is amazing. It's got kind of a 3D look, it's hard to explain, but well worth the trip.
Also visit the Citadella. It's like a city within a city. There are many other places to visit in Vicenza.
There's also the Campagnolo factory where the best racing bicycles in the world are made. Call ahead to see about a tour. It's very interesting to see how these fine bikes are made.
There's also Monte Berico- a beautiful church, and Monticello is here as well. Trivia- Monticello was said to be the inspiration for the Thomas Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. I've been to both places, and there is a big resemblance in the two.

Camasano- A town not too far from Vicenza. They have a market on the weekends, and when I was there, the prices were very reasonable.
If you like wine, there used to be a shop there that had beautiful bottles of wine of all shapes and sizes.

Venezia (Venice)- A trip to Italy isn't complete without visiting this beautiful city. There's St. Mark's Square, the St. Mark's Cathedral (I think that's the name of it), tons of great shops (some are pricier than others), and of course there's the gondola rides.
But you have to take a ferry to get to Venice.

Soave- My 6th grade teacher took us here on a field trip. He took us to Soave Castle. It's a medieval castle which was still in good shape when we went. I also had my parents take us there when my grandmother and aunt came to visit. The views out of the castle windows are beautiful as well. But, let me warn you (unless things have changed), there aren't any regular toilets there. The "toilets" are really just a hole in the floor with a button to push to flush it. It was funny when my grandmother tried to use it! lol

Lago De Garda (Garda Lake)- The largest lake in Italy. It's located at the foot of the Alps, and not too far from most of the places I've listed so far. And there's lots to do there. Here's a link to their site: http://www.gardalake.it/

Verona- Home of the Montegue and Capulet castles. More popularly known as Romeo and Juliet's castles. My grandmother swore Romeo's castle was haunted! lol When we got to the castle gate, her
camera started going haywire! lol It was one of those Kodak Disc camera's (and I don't mean compact disc- it used a flower-shaped film disc).

Firenze (Florence)- The Piti Palace, Uffizi Gallery. Homes of some of the most famous paintings and statues. The Uffizi Gallery is the home of the statue of David, which is so tall and big, it has it's own room!
Definitely the biggest naked man I've ever seen! lol

Well, I think that should cover it for now. lol Enjoy!

yes, twice. i'm going back this summer to visit some friends and family (the family's in holland). it's absolutely gorgeous and the culture is to die for. venice is beautiful, but the people there can be rather short and rude (like you would expect from a northerner here). but all in all it's simply amazing. i love it to death!

No I have not, not yet. It is a long term goal for me. I have relatives in the suburbs of Rome. Have got to see the Cisteen Chapel along with all of the other great works of Michelangelo and other artists. Bello, bello Italy.
