I am currently living in Cagliari (the capital of Sardegna). Everyone is correct (except for the person who said there are needles at the beaches...) The food is some of the best in the world, it has really nice weather all year round (for the most part, it tends to get a little chilly in the winter), of don't forget Italian women! I would definitely recommend renting a car in Cagliari, or else you will be waiting for buses for ever, but a bit of a warning driving is kind of crazy and streets are very narrow. A cool place to go for shopping and to see some 'old' Italy is up near the Bastione (its a castle kind of structure that you can see the whole city from). Depending at what time you go, the beaches are always a good place to go! They are beautiful and free of rocks. I would recommend studying a little Italian before you go, a lot of people speak English, but they don't want to let you know that. You can also take some buses to some smaller cities. I really liked Macomer and cities over in that direction... If you want more information on Sardegna, or some more questions answered feel free to email me here:

Have fun!

It's great. The sea is wonderful and you have a lot of choice beetween sandy beahces, rocks, cliffs.
Sure the best thing to do is rent a car and go to a different place every day.
In my opinion you can find the best beaches in the southern part and the prices are lower than in the northeast.
La Maddalena Island is great too...

However I've to admit that you can find the best sea in the Golfo di Orosei in the eastern part but you can reach them only by sea from CalaGonone.

And, don't forget there is not only sea... have a look at the second link for a wonderful trip thru old mines...

Last bu not least... GREAT FOOD! I'm italian so I know what I'm talking about...

Trust me, I've been there for the last 4 summers...

P.S. It' right... avoid middle august... too many people.

Yes I have been 3 times and going again this year - It is absolutely beautiful.

Its my favourite place in Italy along with Florence - the sea has to be seen to be believed.

Not too touristy and a sparkling jewel in the Med - If u get the chance - goooooooooooooooo

We lived in Sardinia for two years...It was beautiful! I agree do not go in August...It is a huge tourist attraction for Italians and Germans. May, June or Sept is really good....Definitely rent a car and drive around the island I would recommend driving to Palau and taking the ferry over to Lamaddalena and staying over there for a couple of days....I don't know what the guy was talking about when he described the beaches...I never had to pay at the beach and never saw and "needles"? I would also recommend Castesardo, Tempio, Alghero and Olbia...You won't regret it!!

it is one of the best places i have ever been in my life... First time i went there from Miami I wanted to stay there and live there...The people, the food, the Ocean are just staggering...try it you won't be disappointed... do not go in august, price tend to go up a lot and it is too crowded.

Best time? end of june beg of july(first week).

rent a car it is very hard to get around without one..

twice, working, its not very clean, you have to pay to go on a private beach because the public ones are full of needles, people are nice though one guy offered me a cheese processed with maggots which still had tiny maggots in it, wriggling, illegal apparently, i didn't have any! girls are very nice!!
