I recently read this article which highlights the attractions in Rome, and also gives recommended accommodations near the hotel. Take your pick.

I booked my Rome holiday in June. Our Hotel was outside of Rome but was only £240 with Fleetway Travel in flights with Ryanair. We paid 5euro each to get into the city from airport. The drivers were very friendly and coach was air conditioned. We could have got a cab but we were on a student budget! We then got to our hotel from Termini Station to Saxa Ruba then one bus to Hotel.
At first we were annoyed it was so far out but it was so worth it! It was a 3* with air con and wonderful breakfast and clean modern rooms set in a bungalow setting. We had a pool which was soo nice becasue it was so hot and busy in Rome Centre! I was very glad we stayed away from the centre. The reception gave us a timetable for the buses and trains and we paid 16euros each for a week travel card, much cheaper than one for London!
I would recommend getting a guide book, we had two by eye witness and they were so helpful! Be careful of your bag and read the warnings about the city before you get there.
It was the most wonderful holiday I had!

Our hotel website is....

Try Hotel King on Via Sistina. Its walking distance to the Spanish steps and down the street from the Metro where you can get to other attractions. And they serve breakfast which is a plus.

Hi
this might sound crazy but check out ebay for great deals on hotels in Rome. It couldn't hurt and you will be surprized at what you might find. Happy Travel!

Hello,

Try the Hotel Baileys, my husband and I stayed there for the weekend it is an easy walk to attractions/the tub to get to attractions. It is in a clean, safe area and there are lots of wonderful places to eat in the streets surrounding the hotel. The rooms were really nice and so was the staff (oh yeah and the breakfast). If you do go there make sure you try the pizzeria right across the road!

I stayed at a Pensione at 27 via Volturno, about a block from Termini station. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the place, but I got it from the OctopusTravel website (excellent).

Anyway, the place was quiet, clean, comfortable - and cheap as hell. It was/is a family run place, with 'Momma' running the joint most of the time. The staff were lovely, it was near everywhere I wanted to visit, and I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Ooh, just found it on the web. Hotel Cressy. It's on the 5th floor (there's a lift). Go here http://www.londraweb.com/book/cressy?language=en to book. Good luck!
