While the Leaning Tower is the most famous image of the city, it is one of many works of art and architecture in the city's Piazza del Duomo, also known, since XX century, as Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), to the north of the old town center. The Piazza del Duomo also houses the Duomo (the Cathedral), the Baptistry and the Camposanto Monumentale. Knights' Square (Piazza dei Cavalieri), where the Palazzo della Carovana, with its impressive façade designed by Giorgio Vasari may be seen. |

Just wait til you get there, you won't know where to look. Italy is a dream regardless of where you go. Shame you are missing Venice, but have a lovely time anyway. You'll love it. |

I'd agree with mareeclara. The main attractions in Pisa are the Tower, Duomo and baptistry which are all together. The Piazza dei Cavalieri has some nice buildings and there's a nice shopping street and some interesting architecture on the walk from the train station to the Tower. Pisa is a nice town, but there's a lot more to see in the old, walled part of Lucca which is just a 25 minute ride on the train from Pisa.
When I take visitors to see the tower, we go early in the morning and then go to Lucca for the rest of the day unless one of the festivals are going on in Pisa. If you climb the clock tower in Lucca, you can get some great photos of the Tuscan country side and also of Lucca itself including the Guinigi Tower which has oak trees growing from the top.
The Duomo in Lucca is pretty nice, but I particularly like San Michele. http://www.welcometuscany.it/tuscany/lucca/lucca.htm
The major attractions in Rome and florence are all well covered in the guidebooks. However, in Florence, I particularly like the Orsanmichele which has some interesting frescos and a very good tabernacle. It's free, but there's a small ticket booth on the back of the building where you can get tickets for the Florence museums. I've never seen more than one or two people buying tickets there as opposed to the museums themselves which can have very long lines. Go up to Piazza Michelangelo for the view of the city. While you're there continue up the hill to San Miniato al Monte. The church is interesting and there's a nice small shop run by the monks. You can walk back down to Florence through the rose garden. In Rome, you might be interested in the view through the keyhole at the Knights of Malta building on Aventine Hill or the Museum of the Souls of Purgatory. |

Gee, I love Tuscany. I loved Assisi and would go again in a heartbeat. I found Pisa friendly but, way to touristy for my taste. Just get out and away from all the crowds and find a little cafe. You will love Florence. |

Lucca is a quaint little town near Pisa and Florence and its lovely to be able to escape the hoards in pisa and florence. |
