There is a map with hostel´s location.
http://www.hostelworld.com/Hostels/Rome/Italy/Map
Notice that hostels near main atractions as trevi fountain or spanish spteps are more expensive.
I recomend you to book a hostel near Termini (Train Station).
They are walking distance of main atractions and have good prices.
You can skip colesseum line as well buying your ticket at the palatine hill.
Another tip: If you go to the vatican museum do it at noon for a ten minutes line. if you go at opening time, the line it´s about 2 hours.
I recomend you to visit Galleria Borghese (mandatory booking online) |

I think that in terms of choices rome has better rooms in bed and breakfasts located in the city center. if you want to see a wide range of cheap accommodation in rome you can see http://www.romanguide.com |

Relax! Rome is beautiful. I would strongly reccommend you get your hands on a Roma pass and use it first at the colosseum. You skip a horrendous line doing that.
For Hostels I would look at
