How do I get from Italy to Istanbul fastest and easiest?

I'm doing a low budget, backpack type trip for a honeymoon, and would love to see both Italy and Istanbul in the same trip. I heard there is a boat from Bari, Italy to somewhere in Greece, and then a 21 hour train ride from there to Istanbul. I need to know more details, though, and any other possibilities. Any help is appreciated.

in defense of the ground travel, it would be romantic...

i did both italy and turkey for a vacation once but i did fly-- it is cheap and i had limited time.

i hope that you have time to see lots of Turkey outside of just Istanbul-- i only went for a week and it wasn't nearly enough time.

Cheapest would be to buy a fare on a cargo vessel. My friends went from New York to France for like $100 on a cargo ship. The quarters were meager and food avg. but was cheap and fun.

yeah a airplane. In many parts of life you can have 2 out of 3. The 3 options are: low Price, speed, quality (comfort)
if you pick something low cost and fast-it won't comfortable
Low price and speed = no comfort
Speed and Comfort= expensive
Comfort and low price= slow
you get the point, so you must study the internal enviroment they offer and check online for airline tix

I heard that now flying in Europe can be very cheap - like a 100 Euro or so... this money you spend as well when you are traveling by boat or bus or so at least. It depend for what you are looking for, for a low budget trip from Italy to Istanbul or for an adventure tripp? If you are on honeymoon, and open mind - even when you get now at this moment more and new info's you will not know 100 % if that will work out. Sometimes stuff just appear. If you like to go by boat and bus and so on, ... you just should do so... and you will find the way...
