How do Italians view American's?

In short, Italians do not like Americans. Italians find the idea of "America" interesting, but the American population disgusts them. Generally, the more they know, the more they disagree with American ideas. Most don't like the way we eat, the way we work, the way we "play". Most believe Americans should be grateful to the Italians for the discovery. Most don't understand the American conquest for power and money (be it work lifestyle or corporations). They don't understand the lack of family values and think it is a shame. Even if they don't mind the population, most do not like President Bush. Most are against the war and hate Bush for it. Ohhhhh, how I could go on for hours...... On the other hand.... you will find Italians who want to visit America. Not caring about the American public... they want to visit California and see Las Vegas. In ten months, I didn't hear an Italian say he/she would like to live in America. In addition, most Italians would prefer not to see "on" and "off" on their Italian coffee maker.

I'd have to say with a certain, Italian type of awesome disguest. :) I seems like they like the idea of America, but the relality of it disgusts them. But, that is just what I think they think! :)

The Italians I've met think we don't appreciate life enough, that we work too much, and we need to see how beautiful things are. Oh, and to drink wine. =)

The italian culture more and more adapt English words to their language. They are also very grateful of the help the US provided to them during the II world war.

California Bear
In general, they are neutral on Americans, not particularly liking or disliking Americans. Individual Americans can grate on Italians if they come to Italy expecting to be treated a certain way. If you treat the Italians and their culture with respect, you will have no problems and will likely garner a positive response.

America as a political entity, however, is not very well respected. We were in Italy shortly before the 2004 elections and there was a TON of anti-Bush sentinment in evidence. It is best to leave your politics at home when you go to Italy.
