I'm Italian and I live in Rome near the Colosseum!
I say you the important place to visit on the centre of city:
Colosseum and Arco di Costantino on Via dei Fori Imperiali
Piazza Venezia
Via del Corso (Full of shops!)
Piazza Navona
Fontana di Trevi
San Pietro (City of the Vaticano)
Parco del Colle Oppio with the Domus Area (Nerone Imperator's House)
Galleria Alberto Sordi on Via del Corso

there are many other places on Rome and on Italy in general!!
If you want to know other things, you can write me!

Places to visit galore in Italy - places of historic importance, artistic brilliance. If your itineary and bughet permits you must see - venice, rome, florence, milan, naples. Plenty of options - you can take an inland cruise, where you will be shown all intersting spots by the tour-operator.
Foodwise - try the original version of pasta, pizza, lasagne, mosarella, cheese, local wine etc.
In whole of Europe - Italy, I think attarct maximum number of tourists.

roman ruins above all (eheh, i'm from rome)
hills in tuscany
venice
islands like ponza, capri, isola d'elba
portofino and surroundings

these are most typical places in italy i think, if something more occurs to me, i will add it..

and..we have not just pasta and pizza...we eat a lot of fruit, vegetables and meat...if you are a tourist they will surely suggest you pasta and pizza because they think that is what you would like to eat

PS: matteo, hai appena detto "venire" a roma nell'altro senso, quello un po' più malizioso..

Rosie says RELAX.
The leaning tower of Pisa
Mount Vesuvius
Pompeii
The Colloseum

riccione, milan , rome, tons of graffiti chaotic traffic, well behaved children. Gastronomy that gets boring after a while as there are hardly no other cuisine. Pasta Pizza,Pasta Pizza ,Pasta Pizza ,Pasta Pizza ,Pasta Pizza ,Pasta Pizza gets boring after a while.

I would love to explore tuscany.
