How do you use Italian menus in restaurants etc.? |
We're in Italy for the first time,.and looking at menus we are offered a prima, a second course a sweet, anti pasti, pizza etc.
Is it permissible just to go in for a second course and wine? Or just pizza? What is acceptable, polite behaviour?
Thank you |

Usually we use a first "spaghetti", a second (meat, eggs, fish) and the contour (vegetables of all kinds) and 'water and wine are included, which for a fixed price menus (12-15 euro).
Otherwise without the 20-30 euro at a fixed price menu (,first
second, side dish, drinks and coffee)
For pizza with beverage from 15-20 euros.
But in Bologna we recommend that you take the lasagna or agnolotti.

Yes it is, a lot of Italians eat only a second at the restaurant, other only a primo...
Instead pizza usually is a "piatto unico" that means that it is a complete meal and we usually eat only it even if sometimes people eat it after a primo, or other ones decide to eat half pizza ( divided with someone else in the group) and a "primo"...
Buon Appetito ^^ |

It is perfectly acceptable to choose any combination from the menu - you will see plenty of Italians doing exactly the same thing, pizza included. If you want past then you will need to opt for a prima. |

do what ever you feel like, italians wont mind what you choose to eat. Ive been there twice and you dont need to follow any rules to get something at a restaurant |

Of course you can choose! You can avoid pasta (primo piatto) if you want and go straight to a second course (secondo piatto). There's no problem and pizza is also ok. No unpolite behaviour, don't worry! We Italians can choose not to have pasta, so you can too. |

you can get what you want...
no problems..
when you eat pizza generally you get just it, not primo and secondo (it's too much), but if you want you can order an antipasto and sweet too.. or a contorno( ex french fries..) ..
no particularly rules... well... it's considered strange drink cappuccino at dinner or lunch.. |

You order what you want. You can order just a first or a second dish if you want or go the whole nine yards and have something for all the courses. |

your perfectly fine :-) have whatever you want. Going straight to the second course(main course) is fine because it cost the most usually. They want you to eat the most expensive! |
