Rome Termini station to Milan - 4.5 hrs by Eurostar train. Several departures during the day - 08:30, 09:30, 10:30, 11:30, 13:30 and more in the afternoon.

Can travel cheap for 29euros in 1st class on the Eurostar with the 29/39 eurostar promotion, if available.

Check Trenitalia for timetables and the promotion tab for restrictions for the 29/39 eurostar offer.

I am not sure about how far it is, however, you can get the train from rome to milano. It might take time. If you want to safe time, I recommend take a flight to Milano. It is not much expensive and very much faster.
