Shortest distance between Rome and Pise (Italy) is exactly 208 miles (of which 136 miles in motorway) and by car it takes roughly 4 hours.
Here's the page of the site I'm always using to know distances when I need to travel in Europe.
http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/int/dyn/controller/Driving_directions#startLocid=31NDFsenkxMGNOREV1T0RrMU5EYz1jTVRJdU5EZ3lNekk9&destLocid=31NDFsMDkxMGNORE11TnpFMk1UUT1jTVRBdU16azJOZz09&step1Locid=&step2Locid=&vh=CAR&distance=Mi&strVehicle=0&intItineraryType=1&devise=1.0|EUR&isAvoidFrontiers=false&isFavoriseAutoroute=false&isAvoidPeage=false&isAvoidVignette=false&isAvoidLNR=false&carTypeHidden=Citadine&caravaneHidden=false&typeCarbHidden=essence&autoConso=6.8&villeConso=6&routeConso=5.6&carbCost=1.3&dtmDeparture=01/04/2008
but depending on your taste (if you want a slightly longer and expensive but safer and quicker way) you may take a different itinerary -Here the distance will be 234 miles (of which 217 miles in the motorway). Here's the page for yr checking

It's 3 hours 50 min to get from Roma to Pisa, and the best bet is the train. The train system in Italy is good. I've been to Rome, Venice and Florence (and England, Scotland, France, Norway, Holland and Ireland) and I always use public transport.
have a great trip! |

Driving it's about an hour and a half. By train, two hours. But, really if you're going to Pisa, you may as well go to Florence. It's much prettier. Pisa is kind of like an amusement park to be honest. |
