I took my family to Italy last December/January, and yes, it was winter, but we dressed in layers so that we could take off jackets, scarves etc as we warmed up as we walked. Every night we could walk out in the night air and not feel the cold - even eating gelato at midnight in beautiful piazzas. There was a light snow cover in Perugia for a day or two in Feb, but it was not a problem. It was coldest in Venice where it was also foggy, but we still stayed out admiring the place by night.
I found winter preferable to the crowds of summer - the Italians were friendly and relaxed. We had the backstreets of Anacapri to ourselves and did not have to line up to see any of the indoor attractions (sorry, except the Vatican).
If you go in winter, I hope you enjoy the refreshing climate as much as I did. |

Hello,
I love Italy in January and February!! The weather is cool and clear. You will need jackets in the morning and at night and sweaters during the day. It is wonderful. |

It's usually pretty cold and somehow humid, but who knows with this "crazy weather"!?
You could take advantage of the snow up in the mounts in Trentino Alto Adige and go sky or enjoy a hot chocolate with a fresh brioche in a typical chalet! Also, if you're going in February, don't forget about the Carnival in Venice!!!! That's a must see.

The north can be cold, grey, humid and dreary... you may fair better in the Italian Alps if you are in Italy to ski.
Rome and south it's cool but not as bad up north and is brobably much better to tour than the north. |
