The distance between Florence and Rome is approximately 187 miles. If you drove extremely fast you might make it there in an hour and a half - but the drive is beautiful and usually takes me about 2.5 to 3 hours (we usually stop for lunch or dinner somewhere). The Italians tend to drive quite fast. And take into consideration the time of day - the traffic around Rome is horrendous around their "rush hour" and can add a lot of time to the trip. |

Depending upon what type of train you take, the trip will be anything from 1hr 40 to about 3.5 hrs. The faster train is more expensive though.

well, you got two train answers, but your question was about driving. depending on traffic, how many stops you make, and the usual suspects, it's a quick hour to a leisurely three.
orvieto, which is on the way, is worth a stop if you have time. the old part of the city is up on a tufa. |

About 3 hours. It's a really nice drive. Stop off in Orvieto for lunch. Have a good time. |

By Train it is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. I think you could add another hour to be safe.
Good travels. |
