Gatwick to Rome about 2 hrs 20 mins.

By the tiem you add all the hanging around, queueing, collecting luggage etc it's more like 6 to 10 hours though.

Depends on where in England to where in Italy, but...
A flight from Heathrow to Rome takes about 1.5 hours.
