How long does it take to get from Venice to Milan by train?

I will be visiting Italy in May/June and I want to make it from Venice to Milan to see the end of the Giro d'Italia, but I will not be able to leave Venice until the morning of the last stage. Is it reasonable for me to try to go?

The best way to get there is by train. Take the Eurostar(ES)train from Venice/Venezia S Lucia to Milan. Venice Mestre station is on the mainland. The eurostar is the fastest train that will get you there. 1st class=28.92 euro and 2nd class=20.66eu. 2nd class is just as comfortable as 1st class. Morning departures of the eurostar are at - 06:22 and 08:34 from Venice S. Lucia and the trip takes about 2.5hrs. There are other departure times but the trains are slower.

Vaporetto No. 1 and 82 cruises down the Grand Canal. If you are staying off the Grand Canal in Venice, take Vaporetto No. 82, which is faster than No. 1 because it does not stop at every landing. The landing for the Santa Lucia station is Ferrovia.

Check http://www.trenitalia.it/en/index.html for timetables and prices.
