milan-venice is about 2 hours 45 minutes. rome to napoli is also about 2 hours 45 minutes. venice to rome is about 4 1/2 hours. you could see them all in a week but you wouldn't get to see anything very well; i'd suggest skipping napoli and sicily on this trip (many tourists don't like napoli, and sicily is quite far.)

For all infos about train schedules and prices in Italy, look at Trenitalia site: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

you can definately do northern Italy from Germany by train - I took a train from Munich over the Alps to Verona (cool city). Then went to Venice (it rocks). You can easily get to Milan from Venice. I'd suggest Florence and/or Rome. I took a night train from Rome back to Munich as it was 7 hours or so. If you're really set on Sicily, you can also check into the European lowcost carriers such as ryanair, or the new Myair (http://www.myair.com/docs/cust/en/index.shtml) they have cheap flights - good if you don't have lots of luggage.
