How long should I stay? |
I'm going to Italy with my family for three weeks, and we don't know how long to stay in each city. We'll be going in the summer, and here are the places we want to go to: Rome, Bevagna, Venice, Siena, Milan, and Cinque Torra. How long should we stay in each city, keeping in mind that of the 21 days we have two of those are on the plane. |

Stan's advice is actually very good although IMHO I wouldn't count full days for all those attractions, I say much of it can be compressed.
Is there a particular reason you're planning a stop in Bevagna? Umbria is very pretty indeed, and a place like that might be a good pause in between major stops, however I'm afraid you might actually end up regretting not having spent an extra day somewhere more.. significant;)
Siena, also a lovely place, my dad's from there, but I'd pick Florence for the monuments and the art if I had to chose for this trip.
You really should consider Florence as others have suggested. It really is a gem.
Milan... I was born and live there. In my opinion it is overrated, but I guess that being on the way to Venice from the Cinque Terre you may wish to take a peek... I'm just afraid that after seeing wonders like Rome and maybe Florence you'd find Milan quite dull.. so don't invest more than a day there.
Be vigil when you transit by train stations;) |

hi, i live in italy
the tourist route i am going to write, starts in the south of italy (rome) and ends in the north (venice)
i hope you will enjoy your trip!
rome is the capital of italy
if you arrive there with your flight, you can stay there about 4-5 days
then, from rome you shold go to bevagna
you can stay there abot 2 days (one night) as it is a quite small city
then, frome bevagna you can go to siena
i suggest you to stay there about 3-4 days (but you should visit florence too)
then, from siena you can go to cinque terre
as this territory is on the seaside, you can stay there as many days as you like, it depends on how much do you want to stay at the seaside
if you go to milano, you can stay there just 2 days (one night)
as milano is famous for shopping, and you can visit all the monuments in some hourse with the sight-seeing bus (you can recognie it because it's red)
then, you can go to venice
you shoul stay there about 4-5 days, as there are a lot of things to do |

it really depends on what your interests are. personally speaking i would spend at the least, 5-6 days in rome, 2-3 in venice, 2 in milan, 2-3 in cinque terra. i haven't been to either bevagna or siena but highly recommend spending a few days in florence and also in capri. good luck with your travel plans! |

19 days in Italy:
I went through your list and unfortunately, I came up with a 25 day trip and that didn't include stays in Florence or the Naples area. So I'll float this idea past you, eliminating stays in Bevagna and Milan and substituting Florence for Siena (Siena is wonderful, but it's hard to get in and out of).
Rome - I will guess you will be flying in and out of Rome. These are my favorite attractions in (and around) Rome:
. Vatican - 1 day
. Coliseum and The Forum - 1 day
. Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Gianicolo, Piazza Navona - 1 day
. Orvieto - 1 day
. Sorrento / Pompeii - 1 day
Venice. - You can see most of the Venice highlights in 3 days. After that, you're just enjoying the city and it is wonderful.
. St. Marks Basilica / Square - 1 day
. Doge's Palace - 1 day
. Rialto Bridge and rest of Venice - 1 day
. Murano and Burano - 1 day
. Lido - 1 day
Florence - There is a lot to see in Florence and it is also a great base to take day trips from.
. Uffizi Museum - 1 day
. Ponte Vechio, Galleria Della Academia (David), Santa Croce, Piazzale Michelangelo - 1 day
. Pisa, Lucca - 1 day
. San Gimignano - 1 day
. Sienna - 1 days
. Assisi, Bevagna - 1 day
Cinque Terra - By default, this leave 3 days in Cinque Terra which is adequate.
19 days. |

I there.. i'm italian... anyway, 21 days would be great, i think you have all the time.. but just a thing... well, it's written "Cinque terre" (i've been spending my summer holidays there for 21 years)... And what Bevagna?? maybe you mean "Bologna".. ehehe.-..
have fun here!
ciao |
